December 13th 2016 - Steve Cranfield Wins the Inaugral Winter Trophy

Trent Park G/C Saturday 10th December 2016. After meeting in the cafe for breakfast we teed off on the first which has now been turned into a par 3. A mild day with the course playing very well with none of the usual Trent Park hold ups saw Steve Cranfield win the day on 41points. Afterwards we all headed down to the football club for prizegiving. This being the first time EBOGGS has run a Winter event we were pleased how the day went. Thanks to Matt for organising this event, and thanks to Roy Bertauche for arranging and providing the Trophy.

On behalf of all the members at EBOGGS I want to thank this years Captain Mr John Argent for his efforts in making the season a great success. Numbers up on last year and new members joining us. Also a great selection of courses. Thanks as welll for taking care of the prizgiving, speeches and assisting with the organisation on the day. The EBOGGS team winning the Triangle event made it a great finish to Johns Captaincy year.

Welcome to our new captain for 2017, Jason Grandis and please see the events pages for his golf course selection and diary for 2017. It is a busy schedule so please get these events in your diary early. With two premium golf days a new weekend trophy venue and some old favourites the 2017 season is already looking very good.

Thanks to Chis Boyce for looking after the handicaps, Kevin Thorn for scores on the day and trophies, and special thanks to Matt Jakobson who has put in a lot of effort getting us the best deals on our golf days and also for looking after the money side.

So thats it for this Golf season at EBOGGS , A very happy Christmas to you and all the best for the New Year.

August 31st 2016 - Scott Alexander Wins the Jubilee Trophy

Winner of the Jubilee Trophy was Scott Alexander with 38 points only just ahead of John Dipple on a back nine countback, well done to him. The course was in very good condition and food on the day was exceptionally good, we ate dinner alfresco the first time in the society's history! The last time EBOGGS played Harpenden was was in 1993. It was also good to see Rick Smyth one of our long standing members and past treasurer at this meeting and we hope he will be able to join us again at future golf events.

Turning now to the Triangle Match which is scheduled for Thursday 6th October at Highgate Golf Club. The team is:
Captain John Argent

April 15th 2016 - Steve Cranfield wins The Masters

A full turnout for the EBOGGS premium April event. A total of 35 entries, EBOGGS members playing for the Masters Trophy and the right to wear the Green Jacket. A magnificent round by Steve Cranfield scoring 38 points on the Duchess Course won the day, well done to him closely followed by Jason Grandis and Dave Russell on 34 points. Last years champion Scott Alexander made a gallant defence with 32 points. Although the course was a bit wet, we still enjoyed dry weather for the whole day and both the Duchess and the Marquise course provided a difficult challenge, plenty of trees on the Duchess Course where some of us spent part of the morning!

It was good to see so many guests, remember once you have played 3 rounds our handicap secretary Chris Boyce will give you an EBOGGS golf handicap and you will then be able to join the EBOGGS and play in the society proper. Thanks on the day to our captain John Argent, scores on the doors Kevin Thorn, and treasurer Matt Jakobsson.

Turning now to our next meeting on Friday 6th May Chesfield Downs, The Ebog Classic). A change from our usual format, we start with a par 3 competition on the Lannocks Link course, followed by a big boys breakfast, then onto the Inland Links Course to play the main competition for the Classsic Trophy. The curent holder of the classsic Trophy is Sam Patel.

Last Years Captain Dickie Gomez, myself, Stringer and Thorn test ran both courses last October, and can recommend the day, a friendly golf club and a tough but fair test of golf. This is a golf course EBOGGS has not played before so please take this opportunity to attend what will be a good golfing day out. 2015 Captain Dickie Gomez scored 3 under par on the par three course, certainly a fine score to beat.

Please e mail me your intentions ASAP, Matt Jakobsson has requested all payments to him for the day by online bank transfer, and he will be making an extra administration charge of £5.00 for those who still want to pay by cash. Monies in by 1st May please £55.00 for the day. Please contact Matt for his bank details.
